Architecture, furnishings and etiquette in the palaces of Napoleon and his family. Provisions and heritage
Here, for the first time, we study all the arrangements which, in addition to the traditional uses of furniture and space, involved power relationships and family games. The choice of exemplary layouts allows us to take into account the logic of the ensembles thus created, which fed the work of the workshops of cabinet-makers, bronzemakers and other ornamentalists in the service of a political project. Finally, we consider the heritage destiny of these palaces, which here and there offer contemporary visitors atmospheres that are still suggestive of the label.
Based on recent research by curators and scholars, the reader will be able to take a fresh look at the Empire style, and its use.
