When he evoked the Bible in the 17 big works that constitute the heart of the Musée National Message Biblique's collection, Marc Chagall did not intend to proselytise.
He wished to translate into images and thus make more universal the fraternity message present in the texts of the Old Testament.

The museum, opened in 1973 and designed by architect André Hermant in collaboration with the artist himself, is meant to do just the same. But the visit is also a painting lesson: how to conserve one sense of art. This is the question implicitly asked and answered to by Chagall.
