Many artists were collectors and Signac was one of them. In the mid-1880s, he began to assemble a collection of paintings, drawings and prints that reflected his own artistic practice. His first purchases tell us of his revelation at the first exhibition of Claude Monet in 1880, the beginning of his vocation. Signac does not forget either that he learned his trade by looking at the works of Caillebotte or Degas, which appear in his collection.
