Throughout his life, Monet felt a passion for flowers filled with unfailing fervor, which he loved to share among insiders (Sacha Guitry, Caillebotte, Mirbeau, Clemenceau...).
Flowers picked in fragrant bouquets, a pretext for the elaboration of moving or sumptuous still lifes, flowers scattered across the fields, flowers decorating his gardens or floating on the surface of his pond, all had the right to the painter's gaze (without forgetting the "Hokusai flowers" in his collection of Japanese prints), to his brushes as much as to his care: The master of Giverny constantly gave his gardeners and his future second wife, Alice, precious recommendations for their daily care.
