Figurine for moulding and decorating The Polar Bear - Mako Moulages
The White Bear is a statue of the animal sculptor François Pompon (1855-1933). Pompon opted for the simplification of forms in his sculptures from 1905. He smoothed out the surfaces and stripped his animal representations of all embellishments.
When a model of the Bear appeared at the Salon d'Automne in 1922, the work cut through the modernism of the sculpture inherited from the 19th century.
The statue has been in the Musée d'Orsay since 1986.
