Impressionism, the box set 6 DVD
In the early 1860s, a group of young artists came together to create a new style of painting. They broke away from the excessively rigid rules of the Academy and went to private studios where they could paint more freely. These artists included edgar Degas, Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir. they were supported by Édouard Manet but had difficulty winning over the public.
In 1874, when the official salon jury rejected their work, they held their own exhibition in Paris. An art critic sarcastically entitled his review "the exhibition of Impressionists", a reference to the title of one of Monet's paintings on display: Impression, sunrise [Impression, soleil levant].
