La collection Emil Bührle - Exhibition catalogue - French
The Maillol Museum honours the exceptional collection of the industrialist Emil Georg Bührle (1890-1956), who collected nearly 600 works between 1936 and 1956. Presented for the first time in France, this ensemble of some sixty masterpieces covers several currents of modern art: impressionism (Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Degas, Renoir, Sisley), postimpressionism (Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec), Nabis (Bonnard, Vuillard), Fauves (Braque, Derain, Vlaminck), École de Paris (Modigliani), and finally Picasso. Their confrontation will highlight the links and filiations between artistic movements over time, while illustrating the personal contribution of each of the painters to the history of art.
