Fernand Khnopff Le maître de l'énigme - The exhibition album
A rare artist, Fernand Khnopff, one of the great representatives of symbolism, has not had a retrospective in Paris for nearly forty years.
This album presents about sixty works emblematic of the complex aesthetics of this Belgian artist, who was at the same time painter, draftsman, engraver, sculptor and director of his universe.
This album presents the main themes that run through his work: from landscapes to children's portraits, from daydreams inspired by the Flemish Primitives to the memories of Bruges-la-morte, from the complex uses of photography to personal mythologies, placed under the sign of Hypnos.
Some major works will also be compared with those of artists of his time (Gustave Moreau, Klimt, Von Stuck...), thus allowing an analysis in relation to the artistic context of the late 19th century.
