Intended as a sequel to Nicolas Poussin's "The Rape of the Sabine Women", this large canvas, more than 5 meters wide and almost 4 meters high, was painted over a period of four years and completed in 1799. It represents the Sabines stopping the fight between the Sabines led by Tatius and the Romans led by Romulus.
