Written in French.

"A little palace of pink marble and porphyry, with marvellous gardens," (Jules Hardouin-Mansart), the Grand Trianon is undoubtedly the most refined group of buildings on the Versailles estate. It bears the personal stamp of Louis XIV, who came up with the idea of a peristyle between the courtyard and the garden.

Its single-storey design is similar to that of an orangery, and its relationship with the surrounding gardens is essential. The main luxury is the highly fragrant flowers, buried in pots so that they can be changed every day.

After being occupied by Napoleon and then Louis-Philippe, the Grand Trianon became a presidential residence under General de Gaulle, welcoming foreign heads of state on official visits.
This guide, richly illustrated with photographs and supplemented with detailed plans, includes an exhaustive description of the flats of the Grand Trianon, the works of art and furniture that adorn each of the rooms, and the gardens with their flowerbeds and ponds.
