The exhibition New Works, 1995-2005 presents the most important works of art acquired while Viviane Huchard was director of the Museum, from November 1994 to July 2005.
During this time, the collection was notably enlarged, through gifts or purchases, some of them with the help of patrons, testifying to the support of the friends of the Museum.
As a tribute and an opportunity to show these works to the public, the museum presented around sixty works from the 10th to the 16th century, made out of the most diverse range of material: stone statues, alabaster, wood or ivory, cloth or tapestries, paintings on parchment, on wood or on glass, silverwork and enamelling, without forgetting the traces of everyday life.
The exhibition is displayed mostly in the first rooms of the museum. Some works could not be moved because of their fragility or their dimensions and were therefore left in place. They are marked by a specific cartel, very similar to those of the actual exhibition. This way, the public can judge the works that were spotted, chosen and studied for him.
This colour album presents all the acquisitions: sculptures, tapestries, miniatures, enamels, ivories, stained glass... Among the illustrated works, one can find for instance Le Lectionnaire de Cluny (11th century), un Christ en croix émaillé (13th century), une Carte à jouer (15th century), une Tête d'homme barbu de Notre-Dame de Paris (13th century); others were shown for the first time, notably a set of interior and exterior views of the buildings at the time of the museum's creation in the 19th century.
