"Gauguin the Alchemist" aims to highlight the virtuosity of the artist, who seizes the most diverse techniques (painting, drawing, engraving, sculpture, ceramics ...) to explore the possibilities.
Composed of six parts, the catalogue highlights the interweaving and contributions between formal and conceptual schemes and between painting, sculpture and art objects; in the latter, the weight of tradition, less heavy, allows more liberation and a certain letting go.
The artist Gauguin also reveals himself as a Gauguin craftsman of his works through his artistic approach, rich and diversified, allowing his creative principles to blossom in complete freedom.
Exhibition at the Grand Palais, Galeries nationales, to 9 October 2017 from 21 January 2018.
