The work and its artist

Denis Maurice (1870-1943)

Maurice Denis (1870-1943) still occupies an ambiguous position today. The man who was nicknamed the "nabi with beautiful icons" is celebrated alongside Vuillard and Bonnard as one of the most important Nabis painters, one of the initiators of the movement and its brilliant theoretician.
