Pierre et Gilles is a French artist duo bringing together the photographer Pierre Commoy and the painter Gilles Blanchard, together they produce painted photographs. Working with four hands, their work mixes reality, everyday life, dreams and fantasy. Since 1976 the artists have photographed their relatives, anonymous people but also celebrities such as Eteinne Daho, Iggy Pop or Clara Luciani, in custom-built, life-size sets. Once the photo has been taken, a meticulous painting process begins. Their singular style, bringing together pop culture, mythology and tales, is now known worldwide.
