Reproduction with hand patina. Mold made from an impression of the original work.
Initiated during the Directoire period in the form of engravings or small objects, the image of Napoleon was conveyed during the Empire in numerous copies in all levels of society. Printed earthenware, fabrics, statuettes, snuffboxes, and engravings constituted an extraordinary means of propagating the Napoleonic legend.
They developed the memory of the Emperor among the working classes who were, thereafter, the main support of Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, future Napoleon III.
