This volume covers the ancient period of Chinese history and art, from the 5th century BC to the end of the 1st millennium of our era, with a focus on current events: current archaeological discoveries, current angles of view, inspired by the most recent works of sinology and social history.
In line with the teaching and research methods of the École du Louvre, the book aims to bring to life the nature, meaning and specific value of creations within the civilization that has brought them about. As part of the "Manuel de l'École du Louvre" collection, the book first presents a historical introduction and then a corpus of 100 notes.

The pieces studied, often recently discovered, whose knowledge and understanding are essential, benefit from exceptional iconography.
Finally, sections devoted in particular to the history of East-West encounters, maps, plans and sketches.
