WRITTEN IN FRENCH

During prehistory, the consumption of meat by humans is well documented, particularly during the glacial periods. In France, beyond the classic large herbivores (reindeer, horses, bison), the last Neanderthals, then the first modern humans, exploited animals as rare as they were unexpected for various purposes, food, utility and symbolic. The latter, such as the musk ox, the megaceros, the saiga antelope, the hydrontine, the lion, the wolverine, the lynx, the seal, the marmot, without forgetting the birds and fish..., reflected a biodiversity unscathed by anything human impact.
