Jewel inspired by a detail of the work by the painter Georges de La Tour (1593 - 1652), "Le Tricheur à l'as de carreau" (The Cheat with the Ace of Diamonds), ca. 1635-1638.
This is one of La Tour's key paintings. It depicts a young man being cheated at a game of cards by three accomplices: a courtesan, a servant and a swindler, seen on the left pulling out the master card from his belt.
In the painting, the courtesan is wearing a necklace of big olive-shaped pearls and pear-shaped earrings, which probably allude to her decadent way of life.
Indeed, pearls are considered to be attributes of Venus, the goddess of love, and they frequently symbolise venal love.
