The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Handball was first introduced into the Olympic Games in 1936 in its grass version. It reappeared on the Olympic programme twenty years later at the Munich Games in 1972, this time in an indoor format. The current version of handball is played on a 40m x 20m indoor court between two teams of seven players.
