Drawings from the Mariette collection. Flemish, Dutch and German schools
Pierre-Jean Mariette is a legendary collector. His erudition, his eye and his taste allowed him to build an exceptional collection. His collection, which was encyclopaedic in scope, comprised almost 10,000 leaves. Dispersed at public auction at his death, these leaves are today kept in the greatest museums in the world (Louvre Museum, British Museum, Albertina) but also in private collections. The section devoted to the Flemish, Dutch and German schools is considerable. Dürer, Rembrandt, Bruegel, Van Dyck, Rubens and many other artists from the 15th to the 18th century are richly represented.
