This is the English edition relating about the Bruyas collection from the Musee Fabre, Montpellier, France.
The Fabre museum is known world-wide for its prestigious ancient art collections, passed on from patrons, all originally from Montpellier: François-Xavier Fabre, Antoine Valedau and Alfred Bruyas. Alfred Bruyas is probably the most famous one because of his presence in one of the major paitings of the 19th century: La Rencontre or Bonjour Monsieur Courbet.

However, the patron aspect of his personality is still largely unknown and surely deserves a revaluation on the occasion of a great international exhibition highlighting his artistic preferences, his friendships with renowned painters and the decisive role he played in the opening of the Fabre museum's opening to its time's art. This collection includes the masterpieces by Delacroix, Géricault, Courbet, Millet, Tassaert, Rousseau but also other, less famous, revealing a more unsuspected aspect, bordering romantic, academic and naturalist tendencies, characteristics for a particularly rich transition period (Court, Isabey, Benouville, Didier, Laurens, Fromentin). Sculptures (Barye...) and drawings complete this unique and prestigious set of French art of the 19th century (Delacroix, Huet, Rousseau, Deveria, Cabanel, Allemand, Barye...).
