Turgot Map, named after the provost of the merchants of Paris who commissioned it in 1734, is a masterpiece of architectural design and royal propaganda aimed at promoting the exemplary layout of the French capital. Meticulously surveyed and produced at great expense by a master of perspective, it has been regularly reissued for more than two hundred and fifty years. His 20 engraved copperplates are kept by the Chalcographie du Louvre for future prints using ancient techniques.
