On July 28, 1917, during a solemn ceremony at the Sorbonne, France presented Romania, then at war at its side, with the Standard of Stephen the Great, a banner representing Saint George enthroned as a victorious martyr. A century later, this outstanding work, a masterpiece of embroidery executed in 1500 for Stephen the Great, Prince of Moldova, is back in Paris for three months on the occasion of the Romanian Presidency of the European Union and the Cross Season between France and Romania.
