The theme of the artist's studio, a place of conception, a secret space where the alchemy of creation is established, has inspired many literary, pictorial and philosophical works. In Eugène Delacroix's last workshop and apartment, this fruitful subject takes on a singular resonance. What remains of this spirit of creation in the museum space? How to make perceptible the spirit of invention that presided over the conception of the work?
This book proposes to question the space of the workshop and to analyse the creative process of Eugène Delacroix, painter, draughtsman and writer, by associating finished works and their preparatory studies, also in connection with the objects, plasters, prints or photographs that have nourished them when entering the space of the workshop. These sets are reproduced in this book and highlighted by the texts of established authors, specialists in Delacroix's work and artistic analysis.
