The Louvre is a fundamental place for understanding the work of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). From his very first visit in 1900 to the exhibition of his own works in the Grande Galerie in 1971, the museum occupies a special place in the artist's imagination. It played a part in his very conception of art, and countless of Picasso's creations were derived from drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures or objets d'art held in the Louvre.
The book highlights the strong links between the Catalan artist and the famous Parisian museum over the course of the twentieth century and follows Picasso as he wanders through the Louvre's collections. In addition to comparisons of works of art, it gives pride of place to archival documents evoking the rooms of the museum that Picasso visited and the place held by the Louvre in the artist's personal documentation and, more broadly, in his imagination.
