The visionary artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) revolutionized his contemporaries' relationship with art by applying his characteristic aesthetic to multiple fields such as posters, advertising, interior decoration and even theater.
Thanks to his providential meeting in 1894 with the immense actress Sarah Bernhardt, all of Paris during the Belle Époque was adorned with the works of this virtuoso creator, who developed and imposed the Art Nouveau style as the artistic avant-garde essential at the turn of the century.
The exhibition "Mucha. Master of Art Nouveau" highlights the committed thinking of this Czech artist, as a constituent element of his work, imbued with beauty and harmony.
Alongside the famous posters and decorative panels of the time, revealing Mucha as a prophet of Art Nouveau, this work, and the exhibition it accompanies, also presents his mysterious and powerful paintings, still too little known, revealing the facet mystical and political of his work.
Through nearly one hundred and twenty works from the Mucha Foundation, it highlights all the splendor and evolution of Mucha's artistic greatness where mysticism, symbolism, Slavic identity and beauty coexist.
Exhibition Mucha. Maître de l'Art Nouveau at the Hôtel de Caumont-Centre d'Art Aix-en-Provence, from 17 November 2023 to 24 March 2024.
