The work and its artist

Victor Vasarely (1906-1997)

Győző Vásárhelyi, also known as Victor Vasarely, is a French naturalized Hungarian artist. He is known to be the founder of the optical art, which consists in playing with the optical illusion. These are static works that give the impression of movement, however, by confusing the eye. After starting medical studies, which he would only follow for two years, he entered the Bauhaus school in Budapest. Vasarely's works are geometric, in black and white or very colourful. He had his moment of glory in the 60s and 70s. This contemporary artist set himself the goal of creating a popular art, accessible to all.
