The original copy of the knob created in 1897 by Hector Guimard, a master of Art Nouveau, was used as a model for its reproduction as part of the rehabilitation in 2000 of the Castel Béranger, a building located in the Rue la Fontaine, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, built between 1895 and 1898, and classified as a historical monument. Hector Guimard is notably known for having designed the mouths of the Metropolitain in Paris.
This model was created around 1897 by Hector Guimard. Master in art nouveau, we owe the Paris Metro entrances to him.
The undulating shape of this door knob is the result of an original process by HG : he clutched a lump of clay first in his left hand, giving it its overall shape, then in the right, leaving his thumb and index finger prints in.
