The study of Prehistory is made up of great upheavals, anecdotes and personalities. Among them, Denis Peyrony played a key role. He has excavated and published dozens of decorated sites and caves in Périgord and discovered Neanderthal burials and hundreds of art objects.
In fine and incisive writing, Denis Peyrony kept a diary throughout his life, listing the discoveries which marked his career and which made him one of the most singular figures of French prehistoric archaeology.
On the occasion of the centenary of the National Museum of Prehistory which he founded in 1923, his diary is today published in its entirety and commented on by a team of prehistorians and heritage curators, revealing to the public for the first time the daily activities and the reflections of this pioneer of Prehistory.
