The Petit Palais is devoting a retrospective to Albert Edelfelt, a pioneer of Finnish painting whose international reputation made him a reference for his compatriots.
Trained in the workshops of Paris, he was "the most Parisian of the Finns and the most Finnish of the Parisians", and acquired an important notoriety thanks to his famous portrait of Louis Pasteur.
This first monograph devoted to the artist allows us to discover or rediscover the diversity of Edelfelt's work, which ranges from history paintings, open air with its impressionist influence, scenes of modern life and portraits of his native land.
The book contains all of the works presented and is structured around the chronological route of the exhibition. It also includes essays by Scandinavian specialists and an illustrated chronology.
Exhition at the Petit Palais, Paris from 10 March to 10 July 2022.
