Henry II. Renaissance in Saint-Germain-en-Laye

At the National Archaeology Museum, the beginning of 2019 will resonate with the Renaissance period. Organizing its next exhibition around the reign of Henry II, the museum will complete its offer of archaeological collections with a look at the history of its walls and the personalities who lived there. Five hundred years have almost passed since the birth of the future King Henry II in Saint-Germain-en-Laye on 31 March 1519, the death of Leonardo da Vinci on 2 May in Amboise and the official opening of the construction site of the Château de Chambord, recorded by royal letters dated 6 September. Son and successor of Francis I, Henry II is now much less known than his father, his wife Catherine de Médicis or even some of his children such as his daughter Marguerite, who went down in history as "Queen Margot". On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his birth, the National Archaeology Museum will therefore honour him by dedicating a major exhibition to him for the first time.
