The book highlights a variety of artists, from Primaticcio and his entourage, who produced a number of sheets for balls at the court of Catherine de Medici, to designers specialising in the spectacle, such as Jean Bérain and Henri Gissey. Through their testimonies, they bring back to life spectacles that are often unknown or forgotten by the public and highlight the refinement of this society that produced and consumed such entertainment. It is also a way of entering into the work of these designers, who composed both a technical design, intended to be woven and sewn, and an artistic design, in keeping with the splendour of the shows that were to be performed.

Exhibition at the musée du Louvre, Rotonde de Sully from 27 October 2021 to 31 January 2022.
