To serve the Gods of Egypt

To serve the Gods of Egypt

October 25, 2018 January 27, 2019 Exhibition has ended
This exhibition organized with the Louvre Museum, offers an archaeological dive into the powerful city of Thebes 3000 years ago. Home to the cult of Amen, king of the gods, the city is spread around the temple of Karnak, the largest in Egypt, where the "divine worshippers, singers and priests" play a major role. Far from the splendour of the pharaohs and the great pyramids, this exhibition offers another Egypt that is just as mysterious and captivating.

Cat of the Godness Bastet

RE000097
  • € 145
Reproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited at the Louvre.

In the 1st millennium, numerous figurines of Bastet were placed in temples. Represented by a cat-headed woman or a feline, iconographic elements of these ex-votos recall her link with the sun; she is, in fact, the appeased form of the divinity Sekhmet, incarnation of the destructive power of the solar god.
