Located on the hill of Cimiez, in Nice, in the middle of a garden
planted with Mediterranean species, the museum has the largest collection of works
by Marc Chagall in a permanent exhibition space. Thanks to the artist himself,
and to his wife Valentina, who donated a large number of works to the State,
including 17 large-format paintings inspired by the Bible-from which the museum
derives its name such a collection could be assembled. Built under the
leadership of André Malraux to house the donation received, the museum also
houses two works created by Chagall to integrate into the architecture of the
place: the stained glass windows of the concert hall and the mosaic overlooking
the water room.
