From 1899 until his death in 1926, Claude Monet never stopped tracking down the play of transparency and reverberation in the "waterscapes" offered by his Japanese garden in Giverny. The central theme is the water lilies, studied from the riverbank or from the Japanese bridge, but the real subject remains the fusion of sky and water, the transparency of the backgrounds, the reverberation of the surfaces, the radiance of the flowers.
