The presence of nature in the history of Western art is a decisive factor for those who wish to understand its relationship with nature over the centuries. It sheds light not only on the sensitivities of each period, but also on the fundamental movements that run through them, and which led, during the industrial revolution and then at the dawn of the technological revolution of the 20th century, to profound upheavals in artistic language, anticipating those that marked society.
To illustrate this decisive theme of artistic creation, the book invites four internationally renowned artists for whom the question of the relationship between humans and nature is essential: Philippe Cognée, Cristina Iglesias, Wolfgang Laib and Giuseppe Penone.
