Published to coincide with the exhibition "Fugues in Color" at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, this book highlights the importance of the work of five painters of different origins and generations within contemporary abstraction: Sam Gilliam (United States, 1933), Katharina Grosse (Germany, 1961), Steven Parrino (United States, 1958-2005), Megan Rooney (South Africa, 1985) and Niele Toroni (Switzerland, 1937). These artists are transforming the relationship between colour and surface by breaking away from traditional frameworks. The freely-expanding painting they propose unfolds in space and enters into a close dialogue with architecture.
