WRITTEN IN FRENCH
From the letter A for "Adam and Eve" to the letter Z for "Zodiac" and the letter L for "Labyrinth", this book traces in 200 entries the love story between God and men that cathedrals tell. Uniting his voice with that of artists, thinkers and writers they have inspired, the author brings back to life with passion and erudition those who made them, the spirit that animates them, the architectural forms they take on and the treasures they conceal, in such a way as to encourage each person to grasp through them what is highest within them.
Since the 4th century, from Notre-Dame de Chartres to Santiago de Compostela and from Notre-Dame de Strasbourg to Notre-Dame de Pisa, these stone vessels have elevated men as they elevated them. Even recently, the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris showed that they needed our love as much as we needed theirs to continue this story. The writing of this book was driven by the energy of all the artisans who helped to rebuild it after the fire, and of all those who, before them, contributed their stone to the building.
