Following in the footsteps of the many photographers who have interpreted Versailles for more than a century, five well-known figures of contemporary photography - Dove Allouche, Nan Goldin, Martin Parr, Eric Poitevin and Viviane Sassen - present their own widely differing visions in response to an unprecedented commission. All of them sought ingenious ways of working in harmony with these spaces so steeped in history, not wanting to overpower them but, rather, to fathom them surreptitiously. Their installations reveal areas of Versailles that are largely unknown to the public, and while this publication seeks to honour the deep commitment of all five artists, it also reflects the creative vitality and endless capacity for reinvention afforded by photography.
5 books of 48 pages, under headband - Photos of the artists and photos in situ
Exibition at the château de Versailles from 14 May to 20 October 2019.
