September 18, 2019 January 6, 2020 Exhibition has ended
The Musée de Cluny, the national museum of the Middle Ages, continues its cycle of exhibitions around its iconic hanging, after a section devoted to the unicorn and a second to the five senses. From 18 September 2019 to 6 January 2020, the exhibition "Mystérieux coffrets. Estampes au temps de la Dame à la Dame à la licorne" takes you on the trail of Jean d'Ypres, the painter who made the preparatory drawings for the famous hanging and according to which many prints, some of which adorn strange boxes, have been engraved.

Taking an interest in the print boxes, dating from 1480 to 1550, and placing them in the context of artistic production in the 1500s, the contributors put these boxes in perspective with various works of art from that period. They thus show the artistic influence of the Master of Anne of Brittany, identified as Jean d'Ypres, to whom the hanging of The Lady with the Unicorn is attributed.
