Signac. In the Time of Harmony - Découvertes Gallimard (n° 404) - New édition

Written in French
In the Time of Harmony is the title given by Paul Signac to a large composition from 1895 whose theme is that of a golden age of the 20th century. But this word "harmony" also characterises his entire art. Impressionist at the age of twenty, with Claude Monet as his model, Signac, convinced of the effectiveness of his friend Georges Seurat's method, became a neo-Impressionist in 1886 and the movement's theorist.
Painter, writer, sailor, anarchist, Signac never ceased to assert his convictions, concerned above all to offer through his painting, as Anne Distel shows, "beautiful lines, beautiful colours, without concern for fashion, anecdote or literature".
