Historical cup "Napoleon's Cabaret"

CA200038
  • € 516
The cabaret of the service of the Emperor was delivered to the Tuileries Palace on March 31, 1810, for the marriage of Napoleon and Marie-Louise and the whole executed by the Manufacture de Sèvres.
Manufactured by Bernardaud.

Dominique Vivant Denon is at the origin of the idea of this Egyptian-style coffee service, whose cartels with landscapes (here Philae) and the portraits painted in grisaille by Antoine Béranger use boards of Denon's work, "Travel in Upper and Lower Egypt". The saucer is decorated here with the portrait of Mamluk Roustan, who served Napoleon from 1799 to 1814 as a bodyguard and valet.

Josephine herself had two such services, one of which is now preserved in the National Museum of Malmaison Castle.

Set executed by the Manufacture de Sèvres.
