Eternal Mucha

March 22, 2023 November 5, 2023 Exhibition has ended
At the turn of the 20th century, Alphonse Mucha was one of the most famous artists in Europe. A key figure of Art Nouveau and the inventor of an original style of graphic art, his work combined female beauty and stylised nature with a resolutely innovative composition and typography. The "Mucha style" has been a source of fascination ever since it was created and was applied to a variety of artworks and objects that adorned art lovers' homes around the world at the time.

The exhibition tells the story of one of the masters of the poster, who for six years designed the posters for the plays performed by Sarah Bernhardt. The Czech Alfons Mucha (1860-1939), who arrived in Paris in 1887, was endowed with a humanist ambition that was played out in three acts: as the star poster artist of Paris during the Belle Époque; at the turning point of his career in 1900, when he became heavily involved in the Paris Universal Exhibition; and through the presentation of his monumental works, notably The Slavic Epic, which develops a vision of Slavic history as a pacifist model of the world, which resonates today more than ever. The exhibition also looks at its ongoing influence: from the pacifist 'Flower Power' movement of the 1960s, through Japanese manga, superheroes, street artists and even tattoo art. Visitors are invited to discover Mucha's influence, particularly in the television series ARCANE, whose sets are inspired by the artist's work. Immersive and interactive, the exhibition uses the most advanced projection technologies in a captivating scenography to allow a unique experience of Mucha's work and influences.

Exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersif, from March 22nd 2023 to November 5th 2023.
