A major artist in the renewal of art at the end of the 19th century, Paul Gauguin has left behind an outstanding, universal body of work, mainly conceived between two centres of inspiration, one in Brittany, around Pont-Aven/Le Pouldu, the other in Polynesia/Marquises.
A great art historian looks back at his career through fifty or so emblematic or lesser-known paintings, mainly chosen from his period known as the Pont-Aven School. There, surrounded by a few artists (Bernard, Sérusier, Filiger...), he invented a brand new "synthesist" style that revolutionised painting.
