FRENCH LANGUAGE An outstanding figure on the art market at the turn of the century, Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) stood out for his boldness, which made him the promoter of Cézanne, Gauguin and Rouault, as well as that of the young Picasso. At the end of the war, Henri Marie Petiet (1894-1980), himself a publisher, bought the Vollard gallery's collection of prints, which he never ceased to enhance. This book highlights the capital role that these two merchants played in the diffusion of modern prints and in luxury publishing, where the book became a work of art in its own right. Exhibition
