This French-language book tells the story of Oviri, a little Tahitian boy who savagely hacks at the vegetation around him in order to prove himself to his uncle Hiro, who thinks the boy is no good.
Oviri then meets a mud-coloured horse that, during their trip through the Tahitian jungle, teaches him that respecting other people, and receiving respect, starts first of all with respecting one's surroundings.
This story, written by Hélène Kerillis, uses Paul Gauguin's painting The White Horse to illustrate the book. Details from the painting are astuciously reproduced throughout the story as illustrations.
