With over 30,000 works, the collection of the graphic arts cabinet of the Château de Versailles is still confidential. Begun in the 19th century, it brings together portraits, allegories, scenes of court life, preparatory drawings for painted or sculpted decorations and representations of the castle. Lovers of Versailles know it well; drawing enthusiasts, a little less so; the general public, hardly at all, since the leaves, because of their fragility, are only presented on the occasion of temporary exhibitions.

This book brings together for the first time the acquisitions made since 2000 for this exceptional collection: pastel, pencil, red chalk, pen, watercolour and gouache drawings by Le Brun, Wallerand Vaillant, Lemoyne, Fontaine, Vernet, Saint-Aubin, Boze, Moreau le Jeune, Vien, La Fosse and Lévy Dhurmer. A hundred or so works, from the 17th to the 20th century, with some wonderful discoveries in store.
