Set in the setting of the ducal palace of Cadillac, the exhibition "Henri IV, a king in history" illustrates the diversity and richness of the collections of the palace of Versailles, which King Louis-Philippe wanted in his time to make the temple of national history. It also symbolically marks the first stay of the Vert Galant in the castle of Jean Louis Nogaret de La Valette, Duke of Epernon. The Duke, who owed his elevation to Henry III, had begun the construction of this sumptuous building to assert his rank and power even though his personal favour towards Henry IV was in decline. Paintings, sculptures, objets d'art and engravings from the 16th to the 19th century thus evoke the first Bourbon ruler, from his childhood to the rise of his legend.
