Vassily Kandinsky is one of the most important painters of the 20th century, along with Picasso and Matisse. He was born in Russia, lived in Germany and, from 1933, in France. He is the founder of abstract art, a type of art which doesn't seek to imitate nature. In this 1913 watercolor, he studies the relationship between geometrical shapes and colors.
