In 14th-century Europe, Italian towns such as Florence, Lucca and Venice were active production centres of luxurious silks.
Discovered in the reliquary of Saint Florent, kept in the abbey of Saint Florent near Saumure in the Maine-et-Loire, this precious fabric was used to wrap the relics of the martyr.
A refined gift.
This shimmering piece is a silk lampas decorated with vertical stripes bearing alternatively coloured motifs. Geometric, floral and animal motifs emerge from the weave in a very subtle and modern pattern.
